10 Times Promoters Sided With A Wrestler The Locker Room Hated
3. Sable
During the heady days of the Attitude Era, it's without any sense of hyperbole to say that, for a spell, Sable was as much of an attraction as 'Stone Cold' Steve Austin.
While millions tuned in to see the Texas Rattlesnake flipping middle fingers, drinking beers and dropping fools with Stunners, there was also a major number who tuned in, quite frankly, to perv at Sable. She was utter dogsh*t in the ring, but Sable brought plenty to the table for a product that was aiming to appeal to a demographic consisting of horned-up college kids.
Of course, Sable famously developed a massive ego as she went from Hunter Hearst Helmsley's WrestleMania XII valet, to the valet of real-life husband Marc Mero, to breaking away from Mero and becoming a solo act who was soon perched atop the women's division.
Much like in the case of other wrestlers included in this list, it was Sable's attitude that had her pissing off her peers. In particular, the Playboy cover star's stark lack of in-ring ability and feeling of being above her more seasoned, talented colleagues put a target on her back. Jacqueline Moore and Luna Vachon are just two of those who were left frustrated and angered by Sable's belief that her sh*t didn't stink.
Still, Vince McMahon knew that Sable was bringing in viewers aplenty - as reflected by the demand to have her featured in Playboy - and he stuck to his guns until this relationship broke down in 1999 amidst lawsuits and claims of sexual harassment. Even then, the two parties would resolve their differences and Rena would return to the company in 2003.
