10 Times Title Belts Were Horribly Disrespected

6. The WCW World Title, 1999-2001

39 times.

Kevin Nash historically ended Goldberg's undefeated streak in December 1998, winning the WCW World Title in the process. It would change hands (as in, won, loss or be vacated) THIRTY-NINE times from then up until the point the company went out of business in March 2001.

It was an unprecedented level of movement for a company's top title that remains a low benchmark unlikely to be touched by any organisation ever again.

A title is often emblematic of the promotion it represents, and the schizophrenic treatment of the once-legendary prize quite appropriately summarised the creative and commercial catastrophe World Championship Wrestling was rapidly becoming.

In a desperate attempt to push talent, placate egos or blindly lurch for a rating and buyrate, several different bookers awarded the title to Hulk Hogan, Ric Flair, Diamond Dallas Page, Sting, Kevin Nash, Randy Savage, Bret Hart, Chris Benoit, Sid Vicious, Jeff Jarrett, Booker T, Scott Steiner, Vince Russo (!) and most controversially, 'Scream' actor David Arquette. Most of them had more than one run with it during that same time period too.

The most blatant abuse of a trophy since Jack Swagger smashed Cesaro's Andre Battle Royal award, the company comprehensively and unforgivably destroyed their own World Title.
