10 Times TNA Succeeded Where WWE Failed
1. Sting
The last true holdout from WCW never to appear in WWE, Sting finally made the switch to Vince McMahon’s group in 2014.
In a realisation of everyone’s worst fears, the WCW talisman would go on to be totally misused in WWE. They needlessly changed his iconic music, overdubbed his voice in vignettes and completely over-booked his debut match against Triple H at WrestleMania, which coincidentally he lost. To make a bad situation worse, his next big bout wouldn’t arrive for six months and resulted in a career-ending neck injury. All in all, a regrettable run if there ever was.
Conversely, Sting’s time in TNA was peppered with highlights from the moment he arrived and his career saw a complete resurgence under the TNA banner. Sting quickly became one of the poster boys of the Nashville brand and gave the company a legend’s credibility when it needed it.
With several World Title runs, classic feuds and great matches, Sting turned back the clock and gave fans a taste of his glory years, a decade out of his prime. His bouts with Kurt Angle, Joe, and AJ are particularly memorable, while he can also lay claim to wrestling both Ric Flair and Hulk Hogan in their final televised bouts.
