10 Times TNA Went Way Too Far

2. Claire Lynch And Crack Baby Styles

Astonishingly, in 2012 TNA attempted their own version of the infamous World WWE Storyline Of All Time: the Katie Vick fiasco from 2002, a laughing stock in pro wrestling circles for the past TEN YEARS. TNA hired an actress to play the part of Claire Lynch, a junkie ex of babyface AJ Styles, who claimed to be carrying his baby. Styles, a deeply religious and happily married family man in real life, and never the world€™s most expressive or articulate wrestler, stumbled his way through the stodgy, barely digestible lines given to him like a blind man being asked to play hopscotch. Worse, as Styles claimed no recollection of Lynch, she provided photos of herself posing near his sleeping body, indicating that any sex that had taken place had been while he was passed out under the influence. The angle led to a series of matches with the scandal€™s instigator, Christopher Daniels€ weirdly, the culmination of the feud saw Styles challenge Daniels with a stipulation regarding the paternity of the unborn child. If Styles won, he€™d get a DNA test to determine whether he was the father once and for all€ if Daniels won, Styles would just admit to it. This, of course, made absolutely no sense. The storyline fizzled out when the actress playing Lynch, having received real life threats and abuse over the angle, refused to come back to record any more promos. Scuttlebutt (like gossip with an illegitimate bun in the oven) says that the idea was all Eric Bischoff€™s€ and that he received a raise for coming up with it, because TNA officials have sawdust and sorrow where their brains should be.
