10 Times Vince McMahon Cut Off His Nose To Spite His Face

6. The Macho Man Relegation

In 1994, Vince had decided that with Hulk Hogan and The Ultimate Warrior gone from the WWF, another perceived relic of the Rock 'n' Wrestling Era also needed to be put out to pasture.

Randy 'Macho Man' Savage, Vince surmised, reminded fans too much of a bygone time, and had served his purpose in the squared circle. Savage was demoted to the commentary booth at a time when he could still go between the ropes, as galling as that sounds today. It would have made far more sense to continue to book the Macho Man in his star-maker role, which had seen him work his magic and elevate even the leaden Crush to a passable outing at WrestleMania X.

That would be Savage's last pay per view match in the federation. Feeling he still had much to offer in the ring, Savage either jumped or was pushed out of Stamford, depending on whether or not you believe salacious rumours there isn't sufficient space to discuss here. What's more, he was right: in his 1997 feud with Diamond Dallas Page in particular, he rolled back the years to deliver several awesome matches, without which Page may not have succeeded as one of WCW's few homegrown stars.
