5. Hunter Hearst Helmsley

It would be churlish to say Vince McMahon has an insecurity problem, but damn, he makes it impossible to deny it sometimes. Take, for instance, his sensitivity about his relatively lowly origins, especially compared to his wife Linda. Legend has it he was convinced his neighbours in Connecticut looked down on him for being of far too lowly breeding to mix with their exalted company, even when he was a legitimate billionaire.

This attitude is demonstrated in the wrestling gimmick that encapsulated everything Vince thought about his snooty neighbours - the odious blue-blood, Hunter Hearst Helmsley.

The svelte athlete who would later become Triple H was an arrogant, superior jerk with aristocratic pretensions who was billed as being from Greenwich, Connecticut and entered to Beethoven's Ode To Joy. The bow that tied back his floppy hair and the sarcastic curtsey he used as a taunt stoked heat in the audience that must have warmed McMahon's hate-filled heart.

So it was that the career of Triple H, one of the most successful wrestlers in WWE history, began very much as a vessel for Vince's scorn at his superior neighbours.
