Here's another from the Steve Austin Show archives.

When Rob Van Dam joined the WWF from ECW, he stuck with the hardcore, frantic style that had worked for him in the land of extreme. That included taking hard steel chair shots to the face and head without putting his hands up protection. After a few months of watching him work, Vince McMahon stepped in.

RVD said he blew off Vince's advice at first by saying, "It's cool - that's for everybody else". McMahon wasn't having any of it, and he repeated that Rob should put his hands up to cushion the blow because that was now company policy. After another rebuff from Van Dam, Vince shouted, "Now listen! I'm your father! I'm telling you to put your hands up!".

The ECW incomer's stubborn nature meant he rejected the demand for another while longer. Like a dog with a bone, Vince wouldn't relent and kept on at Rob to protect himself. Eventually, RVD decided he should probably do as he was told, because McMahon was the one paying his salary.
