There'd perhaps never been a worse time for Vince McMahon to permit cameras backstage for a sustained period as November 1997, not least when he became so conditioned to the set up that he didn't notice Bret Hart wearing a wire as they sat discussing a match finish that would change everything.

And it wasn't just on the day of the Montreal Screwjob either.

What should have been a lightweight profile piece ended up as an all-time pro wrestling heavy hitter thanks to the candid remarks of a man living through the most tumultuous year of his professional life and a company willing enough to gamble on the footage not causing the major issues.

Vince was bang to rights and 'The Hitman's strifes became the stuff of legend. There was no happy ending to be found at this point in anybody's life, but a fanbase at large was lucky to catch such a vital chapter.
