10 Times Wrestlers Quit Before Major PPVs
6. Randy Savage (TNA Final Resolution)
The last time fans saw Randy Savage in a wrestling ring in the early ‘00s (other than his cameo as Bone Saw in Spider-Man of course) was on an episode of WCW Thunder in 2000.
He remerged to the surprise of fans everywhere in TNA at their Victory Road PPV in 2004, confronting NWA World Champion Jeff Jarrett. Afterwards, he even made appearances on their weekly Impact! show for Fox Sports Net where he encountered and led an attack on the Kings of Wrestling trio consisting of Jarrett, Kevin Nash and Scott Hall.
This would lead-in to TNA’s following PPV Turning Point, where Savage would participate in his last wrestling match ever when he teamed with AJ Styles and Jeff Hardy to take on The Kings in a six-man tag. Savage would pick up the win for his team after punching Jarrett in the jaw and pinning him for the 1-2-3. Savage had significantly aged since his WCW tenure, noticeably balding more and wrestling in a jumper/jeans.
Savage was to challenge Jarrett for the title at TNA’s next PPV Final Resolution but couldn’t come to terms on the finish, with Savage wanting to go over and win the NWA Championship and Jarrett wanting to remain the Champ. Savage simply quit in the build-up to it, with Jarrett wrestling Monty Brown instead in the main event.
