10 Times Wrestling Referees Really F**ked Up!

5. A Botched Pin/Win Gets Referee Wes Adams Fired

Mark Henry ECW Title
WWE

In August 2008 on WWECW, Mark Henry teamed up with Matt Hardy to take on John Morrison and The Miz. Matt hit the Side Effect and went to cover Morrison. It was reported Miz was supposed to break up the pin but missed his cue, so the referee in the bout Wes Adams covered 1-2-3, with the match ending far earlier than initially planned.

Hardy and Henry were declared the winners. Henry, who was supposed to get the hot tag from Hardy and dominantly run through Miz and Morrison, looked on in angry confusion.

Wes was following orders, officiating matches like they were shoot contents. But WWE were cutting costs at the time, with the belief that any small mistake by a Superstar or referee could wind up costing them their job with the company.

Wes cleared up the mistake in the back with the wrestlers after the match. But it was too late, his fate had already been decided, with John Laurinaitis claiming Wes’ call ruined the match. Wes was released from his contract soon after as a result.
