10 Times WWE Actually Elevated Midcarders To Become WWE Champions

3. Eddie Guerrero

McMahon went from telling Bruce Prichard that Eddie Guerrero was "so tiny" to promoting him as his top champion four years later. That right there is a perfect illustration of how squashing true world class talent is nigh-on impossible if said talent is tenacious enough and the timing lines up.

Guerrero's personal problems washed away and were replaced by beaming smiles when he beat Brock Lesnar to become champ at No Way Out 2004. It was a feel good moment for wrestler, company and fans alike - one of those rare times when everyone is in agreement that a worker deserves his time in the sun.

Eddie, after being dubbed too small by Vince, defied physical size because he was a f*cking superb professional wrestler. His elevation is undoubtedly one of the sweetest, not least because it gave the man happiness before tragedy struck less than two years later.

Crowning Guerrero WWE Champ (and defying his own midcard expectations for the man) was one of the best decisions McMahon ever made.
