10 Times WWE Almost Made A New Star (Then Totally Blew It)
1. Dean Ambrose
When looking back at the current Jon Moxley's time in WWE, it's easy to forget that it wasn't always a complete dumpster fire. There was a distinct period where Ambrose was hotter than a Hawaiian beach. Still, instead of creating a new Steve Austin, WWE turned him into a joke.
After the explosive destruction of The Shield, Ambrose entered into a vengeful feud with Seth Rollins, which saw the two visit hell together. This was a real highlight of the time, as their matches were intense, and the "lunatic asylum" gimmick hadn't grown cringe-worthy yet.
This feud wasn't just a grudge rivalry between the pair, as there were also connotations of Ambrose's opposition to The Authority, which gave him this badass anti-corporate image. If WWE had let this feud with his former Shield brother end decisively and allowed him to become The Authority's most prominent opponent, he could have been a real people's champion.
However, this heated rivalry was stopped dead in its tracks after Bray Wyatt got involved in their Hell in a Cell match and pulled Dean away. From there, Ambrose just teetered around in pointless feuds, with his unstable gimmick growing all the more absurd and cheesy.
While he did get a WWE Championship reign, it was a notorious failure, and you've got to believe that if his post-Shield run had gone better, the wrestling landscape might be unrecognisable today.
