10 Times WWE Attempted To Use A Real Life Situation To Their Advantage (And Failed)

9. Lustful DDP

The bungling of the invasion angle comes down to many issues, but a key problem was the lack of major stars: contract matters meant WWE couldn’t get hold of the likes of Hall, Nash, Hogan, and Goldberg, for the initial appearance of WCW stars on WWE TV.

One major star they did have, though, was Diamond Dallas Page. Only rather than make the best out of what they had, the bookers decided to make the hugely popular babyface a creepy stalker in order to get Undertaker’s then-wife some TV time.

DDP did his absolute best as a mysterious figure secretly filming Sara in order to get a match with the phenom, but already Vince’s real life pride was proving to be bad for business. He refused to let any of the WCW guys look good, and few were hamstrung by this more than Page, who was crushed time and again by Undertaker (himself rumoured to be unwilling to let the boys from down south have any momentum).

Page could have been a huge star in McMahon’s company, but the influence of too many legitimate grievances turned this into a dud.
