10 Times WWE Attitude Era Went Too Far

The Attitude Era was edgy, over the top, and took professional wrestling to new heights in terms of popularity. In truth, there were several reasons as to why WWE was so successful during this celebrated period.

Sure, having two of the greatest performers of all-time in Stone Cold Steve Austin and The Rock is certainly a recipe for success. Moreover, the presence of a rival promotion to keep an organisation on their toes never hurts either.

However, one of the things that made the Attitude Era work so well with their key demographics was WWE's willingness to stretch the boundaries of good taste and often times ignore said boundaries altogether. Particularly as related to sexual-themed storylines and matches, which were commonplace in those days.

Of course, most of the racy angles that defined the times wouldn't fly now that WWE is focused on presenting a more family-friendly product. Then again, there were several angles that may have gone too far even when limits were few and far between.

With that in mind, here are ten of the most explicit angles from what many consider to be the golden age of professional wrestling.

10. P.M.S. Torture Mark Henry

P.M.S., which stood for Pretty Mean Sisters, was a female faction that featured Terri Runnels, Jacqueline, and Ryan Shamrock. They's add Meat to the group eventually to, but we'll get to him a bit later.

The short-lived group was almost exclusively used in racy storylines. One such angle involved sexually torturing future WWE Hall of Famer Mark Henry.

In order to teach Henry a lesson, P.M.S. decided to tie him down, stuff a ball gag in his mouth, put some sort of crusher clamp on his genitals, and then proceeded to whip him. Oh, they also lathered him up with chocolate and whipped cream prior to the bizarre beatdown. The cringe-worthy bit would help set the stage for Henry's transition into becoming 'Sexual Chocolate,' for what that's worth.

Henry's P.M.S. storyline reminds us that the road to an eventual world title reign can be a perilous one filled with sexually depraved mid-card factions and crushed genitalia.
