If you were to write down all the names that have deserved to win Money in the Bank over the years, Cody Rhodes should come close to leading the list. He had all the tools to become a world champion at some point in his WWE career, and the Money in the Bank briefcase would have been the best way of elevating him to the main event level.

By the time 2012's instalment came around, Rhodes was a strong candidate to capture the contract. He had already lost the Intercontinental Championship and was ready to transition into the world title picture on the SmackDown brand. The only other man that was a viable option to win the Ladder match was Dolph Ziggler.

It was apparent Ziggler didn't need the briefcase considering he challenged for the title the month prior at No Way Out, yet he won over Rhodes, anyway. Of course, it worked out well for the bleached-blonde Superstar. He had one of the greatest cash-ins in the history of the concept, but Rhodes floundered for the rest of the summer and was never again considered a true threat to the main event scene.
