9. Feuding With Edge

One year prior to his WWE Championship feud with CM Punk, Ziggler found himself in a similar situation at 2011's Royal Rumble event where he contended for the World Heavyweight Championship against Edge. His hard work and great matches as Intercontinental champion in the second half of 2010 convinced officials he was ready for the next step on SmackDown.

Again, there was no doubt in anyone's mind that Edge was coming out on top with the title intact, but Ziggler and his then-fiance Vickie Guerrero sure stacked the deck against him in not allowing him to utilize the Spear as his finisher. Regardless, Ziggler gave him one of his best matches as world champ, and what made it more special was that they were legitimately travel partners outside the ring.

Ziggler was on the losing end that night, but he vied for the gold two more times in the weeks that followed. Ultimately, he was "awarded" his first ever World Heavyweight Championship when Edge was suspended (in storyline) only to return the next week, winning back the belt in quick fashion.

The bleached blonde Superstar's brief reign as champ was soon forgotten as was his push. He was involved in a throwaway six-person tag match at WrestleMania 27 where his team lost to the trio of John Morrison, Trish Stratus and Snooki.

Yes, Snooki.
