10 Times WWE Fans FORCED A Heel Turn

Those rare times when WWE had no choice but to give the people what they want!

It doesn't matter whether an unlikely fan favourite's every step is being loudly cheered on by the masses, or an apparent television hero can't raise a fist without getting booed out of the building, WWE have a very arrogant habit of refusing to pivot. Even when all signs point to their ill-fated babyface or heel plan being an evident failure.

But on those rarest of occasions, Vinnie Mac, and more recently Trips, had the common sense to actually listen to the various noises being generated by their paying customers. What a concept.

And after finally hearing just how unanimously rejected the following names unquestionably were as the company's next top babyface champions and contenders, those in the back wisely opted to call a heel audible.

Now of course there was always a chance WWE would have simply opted to go full Roman Reigns and offer up a great big middle finger to those clearly possessing zero interest in audibly supporting another Big Dog. But thankfully, when it came to each and every miscast one-time face occupying a space on this list, Vince, Paul and the rest of the folks calling the shots were giving no choice but to give the people what they wanted.

10. Edge (2004)

Edge's most recent attempt to turn his back on the WWE faithful was a bit of a disaster from start to finish.

Who in their right mind wanted to heckle a bloke that had somehow found a way to come back from a career-ending neck injury after nearly a decade away from in-ring competition?

This wasn't the first time The Rated R Superstar had found himself fighting against the tide somewhat, however. Almost twenty years earlier, what was shaping up to be a promising run as WWE's next up-and-coming babyface hero soon took a turn for the worst in 2004.

Not long after returning from injury that year, fans quickly realised that Edge's general hero schtick had grown a little stale. And by the time the then-Intercontinental Champion rocked up to his hometown of Toronto for SummerSlam 2004, the future world champion was actually booed out of the Air Canada Centre.

Sure enough, it wasn't too long before WWE sensed that a significant change-up was needed to salvage their blonde-haired main event project. And by the time the year was out, Edge had finally began to show flickers of the opportunist slime-ball persona that would ultimately carry him all the way to his first WWE Championship.
