He triumphed over the best, boy. Welcome your new canine overlord.

Because Triple H simply cannot himself, he went Full DX in the build - i.e. doing the one thing that vaguely got him over as a babyface - and fans were further reminded that he starred in the vaunted Attitude Era, and was worth cheering over this new John Cena figure with which WWE were bruising our collective sarcophagus.

If the intent was sabotage, it went about as well as the Wednesday Night War; there was no echo of the subverted, defiant dynamic of WrestleMania 22. Fans weren't so invested in Triple H that they received him as the babyface in this tale. They simply reacted with angry yawns, all across the stadium, the sound of which was subdued by silencing microphones in the crowd. If WWE put the exact amount of work as they did to avoid Roman drawing boos, they might, with half-decent and not totally oppressive creative, have gotten him cheered. Instead, they booked him in the Methodical Triple H Special that never really got anything over other than the Undertaker or Batista.

Fans expressed their outrage, and were silenced for their insolence.

You are watching what is almost literally a dictatorship.

Congratulations.
