It’s The Fiend! That’s The Fiend! The Fiend Bray Wyatt! That’s Bray Wyatt, The Fiend! The Fiend is here! The Fiend with the mandible claw! The Fiend!

The booking of Bray Wyatt since his return in the summer of 2019 will have its own chapter in the eventual ‘Death of WWE’ bestseller. It was a whirlwind of classic WWE tendencies, proof that the company has little patience and even less faith in its audience. It started with "spooky" toys in boxes, transitioned into the most intriguing vignettes the company had produced in years before degrading into mindless branding that nobody could see, because of those stupid, stupid red lights.

Many critics wondered how the Bray Wyatt character would play out once it moved into the ring. Wyatt didn’t have a reputation for being the most dynamic in the squared circle, but maybe this new, streamlined Bray would offer more? Critics needn’t have wasted their time, as WWE took all intrigue out of it all by spamming The Fiend in impossible-to-watch squash matches.

A slow build may have worked but this is WWE, "slow build" may as well be kryptonite. Wyatt was shoved down the throats of all and sundry ahead of winning the WWE Universal Championship, and you can make your own mandible claw joke there. You know, because The Fiend uses the mandible claw, and that involves fingers and throats and shoving. Get it? The Fiend! The Fiend Bray Wyatt!

Born in the middle of Wales in the middle of the 1980's, John can't quite remember when he started watching wrestling but he has a terrible feeling that Dino Bravo was involved. Now living in Prague, John spends most of his time trying to work out how Tomohiro Ishii still stands upright. His favourite wrestler of all time is Dean Malenko, but really it is Repo Man. He is the author of 'An Illustrated History of Slavic Misery', the best book about the Slavic people that you haven't yet read. You can get that and others from www.poshlostbooks.com.
