10 Times WWE Gave Fans False Hope

1. Daniel Bryan - WWE Champion

The next time an undersized grappler would be holding the belt come the end of WrestleMania was ten years later at WrestleMania XXX, when Daniel Bryan realised a lifelong dream by winning the WWE Championship in the event's main event. It was eerily similar to Benoit a decade before. Bryan was also a fan favourite who had spent his career toiling in Japan and the indies. He also had a submission-based style and his Yes Lock was almost a carbon copy of the Crippler Crossface. He also won the belt against two office favourites in a triple threat match. As confetti fell from the ceiling and Bryan basked in the adulation, you couldn't help but think 'now where have I seen this before?'. Unfortunately, the post-WrestleMania season was also similar to Benoit's in 2004. Bryan was thrown into a feud with Kane like Benoit and then dropped the title too soon (this time due to injury) just like Benoit. Then John Cena won the WWE Championship and it was back to the same old routine. Although it was unfortunate that Bryan had to take time off, his return earlier this year signalled renewed hope. He could still go in the ring and the 'Yes!' chants hadn't subsided any. He was still tremendously over and the favourite to win the 2015 Royal Rumble. That never happened and there was that familiar sense of Deja Vú as the boos reigned down on Roman. Bryan takes on Roman Reigns at Fast Lane on February 22nd with Reigns' WrestleMania title shot on the line. Will Byran be walking out of the ring that nigh as the new number one contender to WWE Champion Brock Lesnar? Don't get your hopes up.
