What The Main Event Should Have Been: John Cena vs. The Undertaker

The Undertaker’s incredible WrestleMania Streak was still alive, John Cena was still roundly despised by the vocal majority, and this was WWE’s chance to present the never-before-seen epic WrestleMania main event clash between the pair that ultimately never came to pass. While pitting the two against each other would have meant a significant shift around in the booking prior to the supershow, it would have been worth it for the match that would have followed.

Instead, Undertaker wrestled Triple H in the middle of the card in an overbooked self-indulgent match-up, and Cena fought for the championship against perhaps the most unlikely WWE Champion and WrestleMania main-eventer in history, The Miz. The former reality TV star and Tough Enough alum was on the run of his life as a genuine heat-seeking heel so at the time it probably seemed like a good idea. Over time, it has entered WrestleMania annals as a joke of a decision. Even The Miz's unlikely revival in 2016, leading to an improbable rematch in Orlando (albeit in a mixed-tag) did nothing to lessen this opinion.
