10 Times WWE Had Their Head Up Their Ass

8. Basically Everything To Do With The Pandemic

Stephanie McMahon covertly buried AEW's approach to pandemic wrestling in an interview with Variety earlier this year.

Bragging about WWE's "extensive testing and screening" measures, she also said "you don’t see talent or anyone else in the audience" in what was a clear attempt to undermine AEW for positioning wrestlers at ringside to emulate a live crowd. As it turns out, that "extensive testing and screening" amounted to a temperature test and the good old honour system. Worse still, you did eventually see talent in the audience, and in contrast to AEW - who quickly implemented actual rapid tests - not a one of them was tested. Their foreheads might have been warm, but all that wrestling is sweaty work!

WWE only adopted testing after a mass outbreak forced them to.

WWE's approach to operating during the pandemic was hypocritical, negligent and arrogant. It was as if they believed they could get away with it. We beat WCW, we can do anything, etcetera et-f*cking-cetera. They even had the audacity to criticise Renee Young for contracting the virus and publicising it, as if "snitching" was worse than creating an environment in which it was theoretically possible to actually die.

WWE considers itself a family, but they had no qualms over banishing various relatives the very second their prized record profit year was under the merest hint of a threat.
