10 Times WWE Heroes Failed
5. Jericho Plays The Game...And Loses
In the summer of 2000, no WWE Superstar got under the skin of blissful couple Triple H and Stephanie McMahon-Helmsley than Chris Jericho. He had a way of verbally insulting the Billion Dollar Princess in a way that completely threw both her and her husband off their games. Fans who had wished so desperately for the demise of the happy couple were completely behind Y2J as he repeatedly toyed with the devious duo.
After weeks of referring to Stephanie as a dirty, disgusting, brutal, bottom-feeding trash bag ho, Jericho and Triple H would clash in a violent Last Man Standing match at Fully Loaded. It would not only serve as the conclusion of the rivalry, it would also be the first opportunity Y2J had to headline a pay-per-view. Would he be able to elevate himself up the card and at the same time, rescue fans from the oppression of the most powerful couple?
The answer was no.
Despite a valiant effort that saw Jericho fight through blood, sweat and tears to mount a comeback and have his rival reeling late in the bout, Triple H was able to make it to his feet just before the official counted to 10, beating Y2J by a single second. The Game would continue to reign atop the WWE mountain while it would take Jericho another year to develop into an A-list star in sports entertainment.
