To Linda McMahon herself for WWE's reason and rationale for making the company a bigger enterprise than ever before on October 25th 2000.

"Our move to The New York Stock Exchange positions the WWE among the premiere businesses on the world’s most prestigious exchange," said Linda McMahon, Chief Executive Officer. "This is another key strategic move for the company and we look forward to a long partnership with all those at the NYSE. We believe that this event will heighten our recognition in the financial marketplace as we continue to build global awareness of our brand name and our unique form of entertainment."

Translation - as long as we can keep the shareholders happy...no...quiet, we're all gonna get f*cking rich, rich beyond our wildest dreams. Well, apart from Vince's. Anybody that read his Playboy interview from around the same time should know it's best not to think about what goes on in that subconscious.
