10 Times WWE Ripped Up The Script After WrestleMania
7. Shawn Michaels Turns Face
Shawn Michaels was a cocky and arrogant heel for most of his early WWE career. Vince McMahon always saw him as the perfect villain during those times and refused to turn him babyface for his storyline against Diesel going into WrestleMania 11.
Even long-time WWE producer Bruce Prichard admitted that McMahon shut down any ideas of turning Michaels into the hero for that storyline as he wanted Diesel in that spot.
However, the idea started drilling into McMahon's head as they marched toward WrestleMania 11, and he finally decided to give Michaels a shot. After HBK lost to Diesel at WrestleMania, WWE played out a storyline where Michaels got attacked by his bodyguard Sid the next night.
McMahon used this angle to take Michaels off action for a while and have him return as a fan favorite. The decision resulted in WWE rewriting the script to pull Michaels out of the WWE Championship picture and place Sid as his replacement
Michaels went on to have a decent babyface run and had a lengthy run with the WWE Championship before turning heel once again in September 1997.
