10 Times WWE Superstars Pulled Out Classic Attire

All crimes against fashion are paid off over time. Except that Jeff Jarrett outfit.

Matt Hardy Smackdown 1999
WWE

On this week's episode of SmackDown Live, the leaner (although not especially meaner) Matt Hardy, a man seemingly set to hang up the cargo pants up for good just a few months ago, rolled the clock back once more, emerging for his tag-team run-in dressed as though it was 1999 all over again.

Incredibly, not only did the older Hardy brother look in better nick than he did under his 'Broken' guise last year (not dying your hair white does that), but arguably rocked the blood red tee better than he did two decades ago. The point was perfectly clear: these are the Hardy Boyz you knew and loved, and who knows, maybe they'll be clambering ladders once more come WrestleMania - after all, age is no obstacle when you're a mad bastard.

The power of nostalgia is irrepressible. It's for that reason it's one of the most profitable fields in entertainment today, and also, more importantly, why wrestling fans get so excited when a veteran star turns up in their clothes of yesteryear. As endless reboots have taught us, what was good in the past isn't necessarily good now - and that definitely applied when some of these old timers reached into the back of their armoires.

Benjamin was born in 1987, and is still not dead. He variously enjoys classical music, old-school adventure games (they're not dead), and walks on the beach (albeit short - asthma, you know). He's currently trying to compile a comprehensive history of video game music, yet denies accusations that he purposefully targets niche audiences. He's often wrong about these things.
