10 Times WWE Took Away The ONE Thing That Got Wrestlers Over

4. Bad News Barrett

This is a confusing one.

Current NXT commentator Wade Barrett got over by barking, "I'm afraid I've got some bad news" and hammering his podium with a gavel back in 2014. Boos from live crowds turned to cheers after a while, which suggested that WWE might want to try out a rare babyface run for the ex-Nexus leader.

Nope. They just squashed it instead.

Wade revealed during a March 2015 appearance on Sky Sports News that he was told to be a "bit quieter". It turns out that WWE top brass weren't keen on the fact that fans "were joining in and cheering" for Barrett. Rather than running with an organically-over gimmick, they decided to kill it.

Barrett later returned from an injury layoff without the 'Bad News' stuff, then won King Of The Ring and assumed the royal sh*tshow that's so often a noose round someone's neck. How dare he take a simple idea and make it work - how bloody dare he.
