10 Times WWE Totally No Sold A Wrestler's Past
7. Road Dogg
Brian James debuted in WWE as The Roadie, kayfabe Country star Jeff Jarrett's solo road crew. The Roadie was one of WWE's last attempts at the career gimmicks that were popular in the company during the early '90s. However, James had a real-life mentor in sports entertainment, his father "Bullet" Bob Armstrong, who conquered many a territory. Yet despite this pedigree, WWE may have felt that "Bullet" Bob was too obscure to the mainstream audience which the company was courting in the '90s.
After losing Jeff Jarrett as an ally, Brian James received the dubious honour of Worst Gimmick 1996, The Real Double J (Jesse James), whose character hook was being the real singer of Jeff Jarrett's country hit With My Baby Tonight.
As a result of a feud with fellow music-themed grappler, and prodigy of the Honky Tonk Man, Rockabilly, James was rechristened Road Dogg. In teaming with the renamed Mr. Ass, James become one of the most vibrant and over mid-card talents of the Attitude Era, even if most fans remained ignorant of his wrestling family lineage.
