5. Alberto Del Rio

José Alberto Rodríguez Chucuan, as Alberto Del Rio and Alberto El Patrón, was a legitimate star whose personal problems have turned him into a walking episode of Dark Side of the Ring. At the time of writing, Rodríguez is on bail, having been charged with sexual assault. His trial is set for 25th October 2021.

While his family are likely secretly pleased that WWE didn't overtly link them to Alberto Del Rio, it is odd that the company dismissed his legacy when fast tracking Rodríguez to stardom.

Rodríguez descends from Mexican wrestling royalty. His father, José Luis Rodríguez Arellano (Dos Caras), is hailed as one of the finest heavyweight wrestlers that Mexico has produced. In his homeland Rodríguez honoured his father competing as Dos Caras Jr., however, the tribute did not follow him stateside. In addition, Rodríguez's uncle is Mil Máscaras, one of the premier wrestlers to master the Lucha Libre style. This link was acknowledged by WWE when Rodríguez inducted his uncle into the Hall of Fame (Class of 2012).

Perhaps WWE downplayed his pro-wrestling heritage as it provided Alberto Del Rio with a justification for his heelish arrogance.
