10 Times WWE Treated Its Audience Like Children
6. Corporate Kane
In 2015, Kane suffered something of an identity crisis.
Having made the transition to the corporate world, he, much like boss Triple H, struggled to contain the monster within. Whereas Trips unleashed his ego all over a string of tedious, mandatory WrestleMania Epic Matches, the inner Demon bled through Kane's facade.
Now, WWE isn't Twin Peaks. We couldn't reasonably expect the concept of physical disassociation explored as a metaphor for moral complexity. What we could reasonably expect is to not be treated like children. Or lobotomy patients. The personality split was helpfully (read: patronisingly) explained with two new prefixes. The masked Kane we all knew was now known as 'Demon Kane'. His unmasked alter-ego donned a suit and a tie and - and distractingly baggy trousers. It was completely self-evident that he wasn't a 'Demon'. And still, whether through Vince McMahon's hatred of his audience or his love of alliteration, he was known as 'Corporate Kane'.
"That's Corporate Kane!" Michael Cole would clarify, as if it wasn't blindingly obvious. "That's - that's Demon Kane!" he would also screech, once the roles were reversed.
The mask and the fire and the red bodysuit were something of a giveaway, Maggle!
