Punch something generic into Google like, "mistakes quotes" and you'll see countless memes about using errors to better yourself or improve the situation.

"It's OK to make mistakes, so long as you learn from them", says one desktop background in-waiting. "Mistakes are meant for learning, not repeating", says another fridge magnet wannabe. These phrases are cobbled-together motivational tools designed to ease the burden of missteps and paint them as character building exercises that'll stand one in good stead.

The thing is, they're only useful if you actually change something - the most humbling of failures are rendered totally useless if someone plods ahead and tries the same thing about without changing much (if anything) about it. WWE has done this so many times over the years, and it almost always makes fans wonder what the hell they were thinking.

For all the good he's done as a promoter and creative mind, Vince McMahon has also reached into his bag of tricks for an old defeat and fooled himself into thinking things would be different next time. They were - the results were sometimes even bloody worse than before...
