10 Times WWE Tried To Recapture The Magic (And Failed)

The End Of An Era match at WrestleMania XXVIII was a marvellous affair. Of the string of world-class matches The Undertaker reeled off from 'Manias 23 through 29, the two against Trips are among the best. The Hell In A Cell match didn't carry the technical perfection of his double-header with HBK, but the story was told magnificently between three of the greatest performers in wrestling history.

Six years on from the end of that era, the foes clashed again in a 'Last Time Ever' contest at Super Showdown in Melbourne, Australia. Unsurprisingly, both men were a step slower ('Taker, in particular), and the match was a plodding twenty-seven-minute shadow of both WrestleMania matches. Even the No DQ stipulation and the additions of Shawn Michaels and Kane at ringside just couldn't capture that same unhinged brilliance from the turn of the decade.

Also, while technically this battle was the last singles match between the pair, all four men mentioned above got into the ring one last time in 2018 for a match that lasted over twice as long as the next longest on Crown Jewel. The less said about any of that, the better.
