10 Times WWE Wasted Potentially Epic Storylines

1. The Invasion

Commonly (and rightly) referred to as the biggest blown opportunity in the history of the business, the Invasion angle is the clearest example of WWE missing an empty net. Before the two companies became one in 2001, fans had dreamed of countless fantasy feuds between the stars of WWF and WCW: Sting vs. Undertaker, Goldberg vs. Austin, the nWo vs. D-Generation X, and so on. Admittedly, a host of big WCW names refused to sign for Vince McMahon, content instead to sit out their contracts at home - but WWF still had a huge amount of talent to play around with. Instead, they unwisely made a heel Steve Austin the leader of the WCW/ECW Alliance, and buried the invaders at almost every opportunity. Only Booker T and Rob Van Dam emerged as stars, while talented names such as DDP and Lance Storm were made to look like much less than they were really worth. The Invasion remains a sore point among many wrestling fans for the fact that, had Vince put his ego aside, he could have taken wrestling to new heights. Instead, determined to prove himself better than the competition (despite, y'know, having already beaten them), he shot out the tires of a guaranteed moneymaker.
