2008 marked the end of WWE’s Ruthless Aggression era as the company transitioned into offering PG family friendly entertainment. Backlash was one of the final pay-per-views of the era and was headlined by four of its most notable stars. Triple H, John Cena, Randy Orton, and JBL met in a Fatal 4-Way elimination match for ‘The Game’s’ WWE Championship.

One of the match’s first adrenaline-inducing highlights was a chain of finisher attempts. With Cena clamped in a Pedigree position, JBL rushed at Triple H with a Clothesline From Hell. ‘The Game’ ducked JBL but found himself in an FU, a smoothly executed one, which Triple H wriggled free from. However, Cena immediately going into another FU attempt on JBL didn’t work out.

The FU, or the Attitude Adjustment in the PG era, is a move that works well due to its simplicity. To see Cena struggle with it is a noticeable botch despite JBL being flipped onto the mat as he should. Just trying to keep JBL up is a visible struggle for Cena. Picking up two large athletes within ten seconds of each other, ultimately revealed Super-Cena’s human side.
