10 Times WWE Wrestlers Botched Their Own Finishers
8. Rey Mysterio On Seth Rollins
Seth Rollins and Rey Mysterio faced off in a No Holds Barred match on 13 November 2020 episode of Smackdown. The match was billed as “the final chapter” in the rivalry between Rollins and Mysterio, which saw Mysterio dub Rollins “the devil” after he targeted his family and injuring his eye.
The match combined fast paced in-ring work, extended brawling on the outside, and innovative weapon spots. It was a decent TV contest packed with action and story. However, the screw up came at the worst possible time, during the match’s conclusion and the feud’s finale.
Murphy turned on Rollins as the match neared its end. When Rollins ranted at his former disciple between the middle rope, he unwittingly moved into position. However, when Mysterio first attempted the 619, he spilt onto the outside, barely grazing his opponent. Commentary passed it off as Rollins moving the rope. It has since been edited out of the Network footage.
Mysterio’s second attempt landed. He followed it with a Frog Splash (to commemorate the 15th anniversary of Eddie Guerrero’s death) for the win. Mysterio theorised it could’ve been Guerrero in spirit who pulled the rope down during the failed finisher.
