4. Zelina Vega As AJ Lee

Fighting With My Family, aka The Paige Story, featured The Rock as himself as well as The Miz, Sheamus and The Big Show playing themselves in minor roles. It’s hard to imagine anyone else stepping in to play The Brahma Bull but as producer on the movie you have to imagine big Dwayne was a pretty easy get.

A bigger headache for the guys in casting was AJ Lee. It was unlikely she’d return to play herself. She’d retired with spinal damage and according to her memoir felt, “caught in the middle,” between WWE and husband CM Punk. Nor could Lee simply be omitted from the picture. She played a pivotal role in ‘The Anti-Diva’s’ rise.

It fell to Zelina Vega to fill AJ’s shoes in a heel turn, slapping Paige before smugly offering up her title as a prize in their fight. Since Vega plays Andrade’s heel mouthpiece on WWE TV it was hardly a stretch, but the role required more wrestling of her than WWE’s product normally does.

Watching the scene in a video for GQ, CM Punk’s thoughts were light on critical analysis. Punk claimed Lee had better abs than Vega but, “they found somebody as short as my wife so that’s very realistic.” Here’s hoping for some slightly deeper analysis on from his spots on WWE Backstage.
