10 Times You Didn't Realise Wrestlers Were Saying 'Goodbye'
7. Edge
The 18 August 2023 episode of WWE SmackDown was a 25th anniversary celebration of Edge's company career. To commemorate the occasion, the 'Rated-R Superstar' worked a feisty bout vs. real life pal Sheamus, then basked in the cheers of an appreciative Toronto crowd afterwards.
Then, just like that, he left WWE behind and joined AEW.
There had been rumblings on various news sites and on social media that Adam Copeland would depart when his contract expired, but most expected him to re-sign on the dotted line with Triple H. Edge knew he wasn't going to do that though, so this match with Sheamus was his unofficial (on TV) WWE farewell. The promotion just didn't present it as such.
Copeland debuted in All Elite at WrestleDream in October, and he's been rather outspoken about how much fun he's having on Tony Khan's side ever since. In fact, Adam said AEW is "where the best wrestle". Longtime fans of his didn't realise the end was nigh during the 25th anniversary SmackDown party.
