10 Times You SERIOUSLY Should Have Asked WWE For Refunds
6. December To Dismember
Only the foolish or the eternal optimists parted with their cash ahead of December To Dismember, given that 'ECW' only advertised two matches for the show: the 'One Night Only' meeting between MNM and the Hardy Boyz, and the genuinely promising Extreme Elimination Chamber main event.
This promise did not materialise.
Those who paid for the pay-per-view wanted to see their man, CM Punk - the man they audibly got behind - crowned as ECW Champion. So too did Paul Heyman. Instead, Bobby Lashley left the arena with the gold following a hugely antagonistic layout in which Punk was eliminated first, betraying both the established logic of his character arc and fan sentiment.
This followed a rotten undercard. We got what we paid for, admittedly, but it still wasn't worth the money. 'Striker's Rules' were another, convoluted betrayal of the original promotion's outlaw spirit; Daivari defeated Tommy Dreamer in a nothing bout; Kelly Kelly and Ariel stood on bronze and silver respectively next to Jackie Gayda's gold on the Podium of Sh*te...
Really, the only redeeming feature of the entire pay-per-view is found on its Wikipedia page. Some scoundrel has used its explanatory nature to hide a cracker of a deadpan easter egg in plain sight:
"Before the event went live on pay-per-view, Stevie Richards defeated René Duprée in a dark match, a non-televised match used to generate excitement in the crowd."
