10 UFC Fights That Did Not Go To Plan

6. Nate Diaz Submits Mystic Mac (UFC 196)

After Ronda Rousey was unceremoniously knocked off her perch back in 2015, the UFC needed another fighter to take her place as the face of the company.

Enter Conor McGregor.

'Mystic Mac' had just destroyed MMA legend Jose Aldo in 13 seconds at UFC 194 and his unrivalled charisma made him a must-see attraction whenever he was announced for an appearance.

He could talk the talk and the new Undisputed Featherweight Champion could sure as hell walk the walk, so it looked as though the company had found their new golden goose.

However, a p*ssed off Lightweight known as Nate Diaz wasn't too pleased with McGregor hogging the spotlight and jumped at the chance to face 'Notorious' at UFC 196.

Completely derailing any plans the UFC had for McGregor in the near future, Diaz choked out the Irishman in the second round of their Welterweight battle.

Diaz became a superstar overnight and a rematch was eventually booked for UFC 202. McGregor dramatically won the follow-up, setting himself back up for a Lightweight title shot against Eddie Alvarez at UFC 205. However, Diaz' shocking initial victory threatened to sink the McGregor ship before it even had a chance to truly set sail.
