10 Ugliest Wrestling Championship Belts
1. WWF Heavyweight Championship (1978 - 1985)
Despite a few missteps here and there, the WWE Championship has been a pretty good-looking title. The current design is nice, and the classic "Winged Eagle" design from the 1990s is universally beloved. Personally, I like the "Big Eagle" design that followed even more.
Before all those designs, though, came the ugliest belt in wrestling history - the design that Bob Backlund held, colloquially known as the "Big Green" title. It's a tremendous green leather strap with a nondescript center piece, both of which look paper-thin. On the sides of the belt are individual plates dedicated to each former champion, because if there's one thing fans want from wrestling titles, it's almanac-level information.
Backlund, as mentioned, wore this title for the course of his reign, its thick strap often making it look like he wasn't wearing any trunks. Granted, sensibilities were different in the 1970s, but aesthetically-pleasing things were still in style, I'm pretty sure. This belt couldn't possibly appeal to anyone, and had it lasted until the late 1990s, Vince McMahon probably would have screwed Bret Hart into keeping the belt when he left the company.
The only thing that could make it worse is if the strap were red.
