10 Ugliest Wrestling Championship Belts
5. WCW United States Tag Team Championships (1986 - 1992)
Prospective belt-makers and belt-commissioners, take notice: I've made a lot of sweeping generalizations in this piece about what works and what doesn't on championships, and they're all to be taken with a grain of salt. Belt-making is an art and not a science, and rules are made to be broken... except one.
Red leather straps are always ugly.
It doesn't matter what the belt looks like or what it represents - a belt with a red leather strap cannot look good. I thought about including the original WWF Light Heavyweight Title on this list, as it's arguably the most recognizable red belt, but this one edged it out, primarily because of the red, white, and blue "USA" right in the middle. It looks like a pastel nightmare come to life, and only on the third or fourth viewing do all the other ugly little affectations makes themselves noticed.
It's a masterpiece of awful... and we're only halfway through the list!
