Bruce Prichard explained on his Something To Wrestle With podcast that Vince McMahon wanted William Regal and Tajiri to semi-mimic Inspector Clouseau and Cato from The Pink Panther series of films. It seemed like a strange idea, but it turned out to be a timeless one.

Often, when fans think of Regal, attention turns to his work on NXT, his run as Commissioner or towards his agonising 'Real Man's Man' gimmick. Others will bring up Eugene, and how Willie defended his honour against Evolution. Not enough folks are talking about that dynamic partnership with a small Japanese wrestler who hinged on Regal's every word.

They should.

There was a likability to Regal and Tajiri as an unlikely tandem that helped them become WWE's version of a Carry On movie. Between the Englishman's feigned politeness and Tajiri's innocent desire to help him out, the pair struck comedy gold.
