When WWE began airing vignettes featuring a mysterious figure in a trench coat in the run-up to WrestleMania XVII in Febuary 2011, many WWE fans excitedly began predicting the imminent arrival of Sting. They were wrong. The vignettes were actually being used to hype the return of The Undertaker. But the vignettes certainly got people talking about Sting in WWE, particularly a Sting versus The Undertaker match. It's a natural match to make as both have dark characters with a supernatural element to them. Both guys were also seen as 'franchise' guys for their respective companies. Sting never jumped from WCW and The Undertaker stayed loyal to Vince. There were intermittent rumours throughout the 2000s that Sting was going to join the WWE but it ultimately never happened because Sting objected to WWE's racy content. The time to do Sting versus The Undertaker may have passed but, should Sting have a good showing against Triple H at WrestleMania 31 and if Undertaker's battered body holds up, the two could clash in The Dead Man's home state at 'Mania 32.
