10 Unique Statistics From WWE WrestleMania 39
1. The REAL Women's Evolution
Charlotte Flair and Rhea Ripley made their pitch for the headline spot on WrestleMania 39's opening night. Understandably shunned from the role in favour of The Usos vs. Kevin Owens and Sami Zayn, Charlotte and Rhea wrestled what was ultimately a match of the night contender, if not an all-timer 'Mania classic.
This, however, wasn't the match's only shining light.
As beautifully pinpointed by Michael Cole on commentary, Flair vs. Ripley marked WrestleMania's first match with both a female referee and a female ring announcer, in addition to the match's all-female contingent. Jessika Carr and Samantha Irvin joined the SmackDown Women's title match in a genuine piece of history. The Raw Women's title match between Bianca Belair and Asuka also neared this accolade with Daphne Lashaunn donning the stripes for the contest; however, Raw's Mike Rome was on ring announcing duties.
It's a nifty feat that has never happened in the 39-year history of WrestleMania, the only honest upgrade to which would come in the form of a female commentator. This missing aspect aside, WWE created authentic history in a moment that, suspiciously, hasn't been audibly acknowledged to the extent you'd think it would.
