6. Jeff Jarrett Gets Old Payoffs Settled

Sometimes, there's more drama behind the curtain than there is in front of it.

That was certainly the case at No Mercy 1999. Jeff Jarrett, who was about to bolt for WCW, famously 'held up' Vince McMahon for more money before doing the honours for Chyna. That, so says Jeff, isn't the full story. He revealed on his 'My World' pod that the WWF actually owed him backpay for prior events, and he was only worried that he wouldn't get them if both parties didn't settle business that night. The Wrestling Observer Newsletter however had backed up Jarrett's insinuation that he got a little bit more than that at the time.

Jim Ross had crunched the numbers and come up with a $150,000 figure, but J-A-Double-R-E-Double-T thought it was closer to the $300,000 mark. Eventually, after a lot of back and forth (and some concern that he wouldn't get the Intercontinental Title match in the ring), Vince McMahon came to Jeff's dressing room and begrudgingly handed him a big fat paycheck.

In other words, Jarrett was finally convinced to do the job for Chyna after receiving unpaid wages. That's pretty unique.
