10 Unique WWE WrestleMania Statistics
6. WrestleMania 21 Had No Tag Team Matches
As previously stated, WWE didn't care about tag teams back in the day, particularly during the PG era when two random stars with nothing else to do were lumbered with the tag team titles. Things were slightly better during Ruthless Aggression, with teams like MNM, London & Kendrick, the Hardys, the World's Greatest Tag Team, FBI, among others. There were indeed actual teams, but few stars worthy of the spotlight.
It's because of this apathy from backstage that WrestleMania 21 remains the only event in the name's history without a tag team match on the main or pre-show. Instead the event was a lot more focused on the big stories of the spring, including the ascension of Batista and John Cena to the main event, the excellent developing stories between Rey Mysterio & Eddie Guerrero, and Shawn Michaels & Kurt Angle, as well as showcasing the brand new Money in the Bank ladder match.
There was unfortunately no room for WWE's tag division on the main card. As such they were all put into a pre-show battle royal as cannon fodder for other sidelined stars like Rhyno, Chris Masters and eventual winner Booker T. You've just gotta feel sorry for Teddy Long at shows like these. At least Randy Orton got to go one-on-one with the Undertaker!
