10 Upcoming Movies Starring WWE Superstars

Guardians Of The Galaxy 2? Oh go on then...

Wrestlers and movies don't always mix well. While wrestling is as much a performing art as it is a sport, a 10-minute segment on Raw or SmackDown doesn't quite compare to the demands of starring in a Hollywood blockbuster. While going from wrestling to full-time acting might seem like a natural transition, the phrase "wrestler turned actor" doesn't usually bring positive connotations, and for good reason.

WWE Studios' back catalogue is mostly comprised of trashy disasters like the Hornswoggle-starring Leprechaun: Origins, and See No Evil, Kane's 2006 horror snoozefest. It goes deeper than that, though: check out Hulk Hogan's entire acting career for further evidence, particularly Suburban Commando and Thunder In Paradise, his short-lived action-adventure TV series.

There are a couple of notable exceptions, however. The Rock became the highest-paid man in Hollywood earlier this year, and Batista has found his acting niche since leaving the squad circle. The duo have a number of big projects in the pipeline for 2016 and 2017, and they're not the only ones.

The performances will, as usual, vary from the sublime to the ridiculous, and these films largely stick to the straightforward action, comedy, and ham-fisted thriller genres in which wrestlers usually find their home. Some of these films will be great, and the others will be worth watching for morbid curiosity alone.

Here are 10 upcoming movies featuring WWE superstars that you need to see.

10. Incarnate

If you were wondering why Mark Henry has suddenly reappeared on Raw, here’s your answer. Released on December 2nd, Incarnate is a Brad Peyton (San Andreas) directed supernatural horror film starring Aaron Eckhart and Games of Thrones’ Carice Van Houten. Incarnate was recently pushed back from its original September 30th release, though it has already hit screens in Belgium.

The movie is heavily focused on demonic possession, with Eckhart playing an exorcist with a knack for tapping into his subject's subconscious, and as Dr. Seth Ember, he's charged with exorcising a demon from his past from the soul of an 11-year-old boy. Pretty standard “supernatural” fodder, then, although specifics on Henry’s role remain unclear.

This isn’t The World’s Strongest Man’s first silver screen meandering. Henry already has small roles in MacGruber, A Haunted House 2, and The Flintstones & WWE: Stone Age SmackDown to his name. Not exactly a glittering resumé, but definitely enough to keep Mark occupied during his long absences from WWE television.

WWE haven’t exactly hit promotional overdrive for Incarnate, but look for it to get a few mentions over the next few weeks.
