10 Ups & 1 Down From AEW Dynamite (Feb 19)

5. Moxley Survives The Hitman

Jeff Cobb is one of the most spectacular wrestlers on the planet when the situation calls for it. His blend of superhuman strength and agility often yields performances more in-line with something that'd happen in a video game rather than a wrestling ring. It's stunning, but last night's match with Jon Moxley was neither the time nor the place for such shenanigans.

Big Jeffrey going Full Cobb would have drawn accidental babyface pops, undermining the story with him and Jon Moxley. He was here to play the bounty hunter softening a fan favourite up before Chris Jericho picks the bones at Revolution. This necessitated a slower, grind-heavy style, and it worked, with Cobb doing a great job of adapting his game to fit the narrative.

Moxley put in a tremendous bumping and selling performance for Cobb as the beefier man started lobbing him around as if he was weightless, including a huge overhead throw on the outside. The babyface was painted as a survivor here. He was clinging on, struggling, and never dominating. Winning via quick-witted schoolboy roll-up tied a nice little bow on this.
