10 Ups & 3 Downs From AEW Dynamite (Jun 17)
9. Another Small, Great Touch
In another wonderful detail designed to reward those who care enough to pay strict attention - for all the early rhetoric of jobs and stars and the optics of who to push, this mentality is key to establishing a base - look at Colt Cabana.
He was shown on the babyface side of the crowd as the broadcast began. They were in high spirits, performing a Mexican wave, until the camera reached Cabana at the end of the line. The visual poetry was cute enough, but his expression continued his character development within a two second window. He looked despondent, unable to rouse himself into the trenches spirit.
Some time later, he was shown seated, mulling over the contract handed to him by Mr. Brodie Lee, in what amounted to the second row, further removed from his babyface peers.
It's also stunningly resourceful, incidentally, that AEW has turned the most crushing negative - the absence of the crowd, the lifeblood of a pro wrestling show - into this positive, effective storyline generator.
