10 Ups & 6 Downs For WWE In 2023 (So Far)

5. GUNTHER = Iron Man

If you're p*ssed at the Cody defence, then you'll be pleased with this.

GUNTHER's performance in the 30-man Rumble was special to witness. He went nose-to-nose with Brock Lesnar, and went down to the wire against eventual winner Cody Rhodes. Both moments felt like a preview of things to come for the hard-working Imperium leader and all-round wrestling machine.

He's been tearing it up as Intercontinental Champ since last year, and it seems likely WWE will let GUNTHER shatter Honky Tonk Man's record. That'll only give him and the belt yet more credibility, which is a huge plus. Honestly, go back and watch some of his matches - they're phenomenal.

GUNTHER just...doesn't phone it in. His journey from guy Vinnie Mac didn't even know to one of the most important workers on WWE's roster has been a joy to watch, and this is the opening chapter. Who says pro wrestling can't create fresh stars anymore?!
